Autograph letter signed : Denmark Hill, to Mrs. Hewitt, 1861 Nov. 21.

Saying that he is happy to learn she has returned to London for her health; saying that he wished he could help her son find employment but he hasn't the power to do so; thanking her for her enquiries as to the health of Mrs. Ruskin and saying that she is still not doing well and that they are unable to have visitors for more than a very short stay; saying that "Society fatigues both Mrs. Ruskin and me, from long seclusion or constitutional defect and I am sorry to say my Jon seems to inherit this failing for he left London exhausted and depressed unable to read or draw and being at Lucerne in good spirits studying to good purpose and painting or drawing to his own entire satisfaction, after feeling here so disgusted with his drawing that he said he would draw no more."
